Last year I blogged about my birthday. As I mentioned at the time, it was the best birthday I’d ever had but I must say this one owned it completely, mainly because it lasted for three nights.

The Actual Day

I walked to school with Dave (Legg) which was something I hadn’t done for a while, so that was rather enjoyable.

In tutorset, Callum and John Gunstone gave me their presents. From Callum I got a contraption similar to a camera tripod except that instead of having three legs it attaches itself to a bar, for example a bike handle bar.

John gave me a road sign saying Beatles Boulevard, and as anyone who knows me will tell you I am very much a Beatles fan, so that was amazing. He also got me a bike horn.m When everyone saw it everyone seemed surprised as Callum, Pete and Glyn were all also considering getting me a bike horn. =S

It was then lesson time, nothing of much interest happened until period 4 which is mentor period. Nim (my mentor) brought in a few packs of party rings for the mentor group in celebration of my birthday. She also gave me a card signed by the whole mentor group. It was lovely.

Then Glyn and Pete came in with a giant cooking apple with candles in singing Happy Birthday. It was rather embarrassing but still nice.

After mentor period I went home and opened up various cards. One was from my aunt with a generous cash gift enclosed. A second was addressed to Mr McAsh, and I had no idea who it was from. It was from Annabel and was closer to a letter than a birthday card. She said in it that the quote on it reminded her of me, which I thought was dead nice.

The Evening

A select group of friends came over. They were: Glyn, Pete, Callum, John G, Lauren, Brooke and Gav.

Lauren brought with her a lovely card which she’d made herself. On it she wrote “You are a treasured friend McAsh!” I thought it truly lovely and I of course treasure her dearly too.

Brooke arrived with a card and present for me. I’d never received an item of clothing from a friend as a present before. I find shopping for clothes for myself fairly difficult as I don’t really know what suits me, so I was astounded that Brooke had succeeded in getting me something I liked so much. I guess she knows me very well, like a sister should.

After listening to :(, Sabrepulse and Hot Chip in my room for a bit we all headed out. We didn’t do anything too exciting but the group was so fantastic it didn’t matter. At one point we found ourselves in an alleyway dancing to Daft Punk under a lamppost. Can’t argue with that can you? Towards the end of the night we headed off to Cogley Lane Park, for old times’ sake more than anything else.

The Friday Night

Friday night we went out to LoveShack. Myself, John Fenton, Tom, Callum, Lauren and Paul (who came all the way from York) set off from my house and met Pete and Grace at the co-op. We all boarded the bus and began the long discussion of ID. Only Lauren and Grace were actually 18 so everyone else was borrowing one, or in Pete’s case didn’t have one. We were all dead worried we wouldn’t get in, so we decided that a group of us who are most likely to get in should go in first, and then one person should come back out with IDs for those who might have greater issues getting in. It was all very confusing.

In town we went to meet Emoly (John’s girlfriend) and then to Rescue Rooms to meet Sophie Ellerby, Sophy Green and Emily Whitby. Kate was also in Rescue Rooms with Dodds and some people I didn’t know. Myself and Lauren went to speak to her but with loads of people we didn’t know around it was rather awkward so we left. Shame really…

Everyone sat around in Rescue Rooms and looked thoroughly bored for a bit before the first group went to LoveShack. When we were all in, the place was pretty empty. Sophie and Sophy clearly thought it was going to be shit so they left with Emily to go to New Rev.

An hour or so later the atmosphere was brilliant. Glyn had arrived after finishing at work and we had all migrated to the dance floor.

Soon after, the girls returned and immediately saw how amazing it was. Sarah appeared out of nowhere at one point, and then Dave (Perry) and Chris Hunter arrived.

Some of the music played there included: Spice Girls, S Club 7 and Vengaboys. It was phenomenal.

Oh, I almost forgot: Glyn and Lauren made out on the dance floor. It was hilarious. They saw the funny side too.

Saturday Night - Teresa’s Birthday

Myself, Glyn, John F and Tom went into town with the intention of going to Stealth. The girls were all out for Teresa’s birthday but they weren’t planning on joining us at any point.

We met up with Nic on the way and then went in.

I don’t want to go into too much detail so let’s summarise;

We had a couple of drinks.
Myself and John ran out of money.
The girls arrived.
I had some laughing gas.
Myself, John, Tom and Glyn danced around Amy Jutsum singing a song that went “Amy, Jutsum, Amy Amy Jutsum” over and over.
I had some of Teresa’s teapot of shots.
I had some of Freya’s teapot of shots.
Freya bought me a drink.
Myself, Lauren and John were speaking to some guy when Nic came up to us and started shouting at him. He was clearly quite drunk because he then fell asleep (he claims he was just resting his eyes.)
We all left Nic to sleep.
He came and found us and was not happy.
We went to the Red Room.
Glyn was dancing with some random girl, it was very funny.
We met up with Hannah (a girl we see at Rescue Rooms sometimes)
Photo fun
Dancing on the stage fun
Some of the girls left (Teresa, Sarah, Heather, Grace, Brooke) to go to Media.
Sarah and Brooke came back.
Myself, John, Lauren, Tom and Simon left Rescue Rooms for the bus.
Myself and Lauren shared some chips from SFC.
Tom, Simon and John went to the ATM so Tom could withdraw bus money. Some man started on Tom so they ran away.
We got to the bus stop.
Glyn walked towards us looking like a zombie.
We got on the bus.
Nic was on it.
We stood up for ages. John even sat on the floor.
We found a seat.
Some guy started shouting at Lauren. “Lauren, Lauren Evett. Who lives in the White Cottage”. We had no idea who he was, it was weird.
I started bleeding for no reason.
The guy turned out to be Rachel Nicholson’s brother.
He kept being weird and at one point said that Aisling “Has too many tampons to fit up her fanny”. He was seriously weird.
Myself, Tom, John and Lauren left for my house.
We heated up some chips and ate doritos and dip.
We found an easter egg that Pete had left for me and cracked that open.
We sorted beds out and then put Lion King on.
My sister came in:

Jackie: Do you think this is a good thing to be doing at 430 in the morning?
McAsh: Jackie, go to sleep you have work tomorrow.
Jackie: Ok.

We then started singing along to Circle of Life.

Tom: Your sister.
McAsh: What?
Tom: Your sister.
McAsh: What?
Tom: Jackie.
McAsh: What?
Tom: Jackie, your sister!
McAsh: What?
Tom: She’s here.
McAsh: Oh, hello Jackie.
Jackie: Can you all stop singing.
McAsh: Start singing? “It’s the circle of life…”
Jackie: No, stop singing!
McAsh: Oh, ok.

We watched the bit where Rafiki hold Simba up in the air and all the other animals cheer.
Tom: Do animals really do that?
John: Do what?
Tom: Respect other animals.
All: Hahahaha.

Epilogue

All three days were amazing. What we were doing was pretty damn good but a lot of it was down to who I was with.

Recently I’ve been watching a fair bit of Ally McBeal. One guy in it says that he measures a man by his friends.

If this is an accurate measure, then I am surely a pretty cool guy.
